Bluepharma Indústria Farmacêutica, S.A., constituted in 2001, is a company dedicated to the development and production of pharmaceuticals. The company stemmed from the initiative of a group of businessmen who, together with Portugal Ventures, acquired the factory which Bayer intended to shut down, in Coimbra.
Between 2004 and 2007, Portugal Ventures increased its investment by participating in the constitution of Bluepharma Genéricos, S.A., a company dedicated to the sale of generic drugs.
In 2005, the initial divestment in Bluepharma took place. At the time, the company had a turnover of about €10 million, had 120 employees and was exporting 60% of its production to various markets.
In 2008, Portugal Ventures was invited to invest, once again, in Bluepharma Indústria Farmacêutica, S.A. with the aim of increasing its industrial capacity and to start its internationalisation process.
