Lisbon, April 18, 2018 – Portugal Ventures has sold its stakes in two startups from its traveltech portfolio to Nonius, a leading player in technology solutions for hotel operators. Portugal Ventures continues to fulfill its mission of working together with the companies in its portfolio, scaling up their business and contributing to their maturity in the markets in which they operate.

According to Celso Guedes de Carvalho, CEO of Portugal Ventures, “Portugal Ventures is proud to contribute to the growth of these two startups, placing them side by side with the market leader. As we sell GuestU and B-Guest to Nonius, we contribute to the improvement of services in the hotel industry and to the dynamism of the tourism industry and our economy."

GuestU
GuestU is a guest experience platform that improves guests' stay. Using the GuestU Phone, guests can interact with the facilities and services of the hotel whether they are inside or outside the property, as well as with the surrounding city. The device offers guests free internet access, voice calls, a city guide, and internal service requests. Being an IoT platform, the GuestU Phone is capable of controlling over 200 smart devices while collecting data at the same time.
Euclides Major, CEO of GuestU, stated: "This consolidation will allow us to accelerate the growth of GuestU, a 100% Portuguese technology; it also places us closer to our vision of becoming a leading worldwide player in the guest experience area."

B-Guest
B-Guest has specialized in developing a guest engagement platform for hotels, providing a fully integrated suite of property management systems (PMS) to help reduce costs, boost revenues, and increase guest satisfaction. This platform currently has the following modules: automated check-in/check-out; multi-channel marketing campaigns pre-, during, and post-stay; a multi-channel mobile concierge; a ratings system; and a wifi landing page.

For José Vieira Marques, CEO of B-Guest: “Nonius's investment in B-Guest makes perfect sense; it will allow us to accelerate product development and sales by rapidly entering their existing base of over 1,600 clients, which is fundamental to the growth, consolidation, and internationalization of the company."

About Nonius Hospitality Technology:
It was natural for Nonius to invest in these companies and sign this deal with Portugal Ventures. Nonius is familiar with the Portuguese venture capital ecosystem and the important role played by Portugal Ventures. Nonius was also born and developed with the help of national venture capital, more specifically with the investment of Beta Capital, PME Investimentos, and Caixa Capital, as well as its industrial partnership with Grupo Impresa. In 2015, the founders repurchased their stakes, paying significant capital gains to their investors. Currently, Nonius is mostly owned by its founding partners; the remaining stakeholders are the senior management staff of the company.
Nonius is an international company whose exports represent 75% of its revenue. Nonius has always invested in product development (software and hardware) in Portugal, taking advantage of the efficiency and availability of
highly qualified human resources. The investment in B-Guest and GuestU follows this logic of keeping the R&D of the group (which accounts for more than 25% of the staff and annual investment) in Portugal.

For António Silva, CEO of Nonius, "The investment in GuestU and B-Guest allows companies to continue their operations with a focus on the internationalization of the products already created, after the tests performed in the domestic market. With these investments, Nonius contributes to the development of the Portuguese tourism industry, allowing the valuable technology that is developed here to be sold worldwide! We thank Portugal Ventures for this partnership.”

Since its creation, Nonius has presented positive results; since 2008, it has been recognized as an SME Leader, a status that has been renewed and elevated to SME Excellence in recent years. Nonius currently has more than 120 employees in six subsidiaries - in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, Mexico, and the United States, which operate under central coordination of the headquarters in Portugal, where the research and development department and the shared services of the group are concentrated. Nonius currently serves approximately 230,000 rooms in over 1,600 hotels, reaching 52 countries on four continents.
